Congratulations

Congratulations to Robert Goldberg who completed a distinguished career with the Broward Sheriff's Office.

 

Congratulations to Ben Launerts and Belkis Elizabeth Torres on their holy matrimony. The wedding took place in Key Largo, Florida.

 

Captain Dan Rakofsky has completed a remarkable career with the Pembroke Pines PD. He has recently passed the bar in the state of Florida, and is known as the photographer to the stars. Lots of good luck in your next endeavor..

 

On November 23, 2011, Fern and Mark Gelber became the grandparents of Stephen Laurence and Lucas Spencer. Mom and Dad are Helen and Joshua Rubin. Mazel Tov!

 

Lou and Rhonda Bornstein just have just reached the half century mark as husband and wife. You have set the standard for all of us. Mazel Tov!

 

Fern and Mark Gelber recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. 

 

Congratulations to Dara Harris, the daughter of Shelley and Paul Sosnick, who just graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lynn University with an M.S. in Education.

 

Congratulations to Melissa Keller, the daughter of Robbin and Paul Weiss, who just graduated from Nova Law School.

 

Congratulations to Jordan, Randi and Harvey Meshel on the Bat Mitzvah of their favorite daughter and sister Alexis Meshel.  A beautiful ceremony and party were held on May 21st at Temple Solel in Hollywood.

 

Peter Weinstein has just been elected as Chief Judge of Broward County. Congratulations Judge Weinstein! We are confident that you will do an outstanding job.

 

Congratulations to South Florida Shomrim member Gene Fixler who was recently appointed as Chief of Police with the Windham Police Department in Windham, Ohio. Gene has been working in law enforcement for more than 38 years. That's a great accomplishment!

 

Our own Jorge Ghitis is now a member of the renowned Miami-Dade Police Department Honor Guard Unit. Jorge was involved with the Fallen Officers detail in Miami-Dade and will be going to St. Petersburg for their Police Memorial.

 

Congratulations to Paul Sosnick on an incredible achievement. He was honored with a 50 year Masonic pin and apron from the Grand Lodge of New York.

 

Alan Berkowitz was recently appointed as President of the Broward 10-13 Club.  A beautiful affair was held at Colony West in Tamarac.

Q: Retiree's formal attire?

A: Tied shoes.

Q: Why do retiree's count pennies?

A: They are to only ones who have the time.

Q: Term for someone who refuses to retire?

A: Nuts

Q: Best way to describe retirement

A: The never ending coffee break.

Q: Biggest advantage if a retiree goes back to school?

A: If you cut classes, no one will call your parents.

Q: Why retirees say they don't miss work but the people they worked with?

A: They are too polite to tell the whole truth.

Q: What do you do the whole week?

A: Monday through Friday: Nothing. Saturday and Sunday rest.

Fallen Officers

Recently the Nassau County Police Department lost three of their members within a short period of time. Our heartfelt sympathy to the NCPD, their families and friends. Please keep Officers Michael Califano, Geoffrey Breitkopf and AMT Paramedic Steven Linzer in your hearts.

 

The Delray Beach Police Department recently lost Sgt. Adam Rosenthal, a sixteen year veteran. Adam lived in Parkland with his wife and four children. Adam's mother Eileen is the Assistant Director of the early childhood program at Congregation Kol Tikvah in Parkland. Our heartfelt sympathy to the Rosenthal family, the Delray Beach Police Department and Congregation Kol Tikvah. Sadly, Miami-Dade Police Officers Amanda Haworth and Roger Castillo were gunned down on Thursday, January 20th by a criminal with an extensive violent history. These officers were both parents of young children. Officer Haworth was the single-mother of a 13-year old son and Officer Castillo was married with three sons ages 9, 11 and 14. 

The Dade-County PBA Love Fund has set up a trust for the families of Officers Haworth and Castillo. Please make checks payable to:  The Dade County PBA Love Fund. (include Officers Haworth and Castillo in the notes section of the check).
